Born in 1844, Ugstad, Hurum, Norway, to Guttorm Evenson Ugstad and Rise Marthine (Nilsdatter, born in Kjeldaas) Married Martha Johannessen (born 1843-1936, in Stange)

He followed the goldsmith craft, and took his training with Goldsmith Thune, in Oslo. Eight children.
