Born Sept. 20, 1841, Hjelmeland, Norway to Osmund Steensland and wife. 
Married Karrie Evervold, 1865, Faeger Island, Norway. Immigrated in 1866.
Naturalized in Lincoln Co., S.D. Died Jan. 3, 1934. Interment at Land Lutheran Cemetery near Canton, S.D.

The Steenslands were real pioneers. It took them eight weeks to cross the Atlantic. They lived three years at St. Ansgar, Ia., and then moved to S.D.
When he began to break the Dakota prairie he had $2.50 in his pocket. They had 11 children.
