Born May 22, 1885, Vatnedal, Holmesogn, Mandal, Norway to Anders (1848-1890) and Petrine Andrea (1850-1899) Thomasen Stadem. Grandfather: Andreas Anderson Holbeck. Grandmother: Bertha Cathrine Hanson. Immigrated, at age 18, with her sister Katherine, to Bryant, S.D. where they did housemaid work, meanwhile learning English. At age 20 she went to Canton, S.D. where she continued housework.
Married Alfred Jorgen Stadem, Aug. 19, 1908. In 1910 they moved to his father's farm near Bryant, S.D. In 1919 they bought land nearby and built up the homestead. She has always been active in the Luth. church, teaching Sunday School and working with women's organizations. She is a member of the Luth. church, Bryant, S.D., (as of 1964).
Sister: Kathrine Holbeck Lundring (b. 1880). Brother: Andrew (b. 1888); Enger.
Children: Pearl (m. Ginther), Puyallup, Wash.; Bernice (m. Schaefer), Idylwild, Cal.; M¥rtle (m. Svanoe), Mpls.; Cora (m.
Taylor), Minas Gerais, Brazil, New Tribes Mission; Alida (m. Spilde), Sioux Falls, S.D., Estelle (m. Rangen), Moorhead, Minn.;
Arthur (d. 1947); Ruth, Jacksonville, N.C.; Leroy, Luth. pastor, Platte, S.D. Twenty one grandchildren (as of 1964).
