Born Feb. 14, 1872, Fister, Ryfylke, Norway to Ole (b. 1841) and Anna (b. 1849) Bergland Sigmundstad. Grandfather~ Sven Svensen Sigmundstad. Grandmother: Anna M.
Sigmundstad. Immigrated in 1890, after being graduated from Kongsgaard Latinskole, Stavanger. Continued studies at Pleasant View College, Pleasant View, Ill.; Valparaiso Univ., Ill.; Augsburg Seminary, Mpls., Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa.; Erlangen Univ., Germany; New York Univ., Chicago Luth. Sem.
Ordained in 1906. He taught at Pleasant View College, and Muhlenberg College.
While studying for his doctorate at N.Y. Univ. He was called, in 1910, to be pastor of Trinity Luth. Church, 46th and 4th Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y., where he remained as pastor til his death in 1944.
He was made a Knight of the Order of Saint Olav, and he received honorary doctorates from Muhlenberg College,
and Hartwick Sem. He made several trips back to Norway, the land of his birth, and brought many Luth. churchmen to America, and to Trinity Church in particular. He was a member of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Nor. Luth. Church in Amer., 1924-34, and for some yrs. was Pres. of the Fed. of Nor. Luth. Young Peoples Societies in America. As Vice Pres. of the Wld. Sunday School Convention he attended its annual meetings in various parts of the world. Died Jan. 13, 1944, Brooklyn, N.Y.
