rasmussen_rasmus_and_ingeborg_smRASMUSSEN, RASMUS ELIAS Born Feb. 26, 1954, Bergen, Norway Rasmus and wife Rasmussen. Immigrated in 1906.
Married Ingeborg Andrea Andersen, 1880, in Durban, South Africa. Died Oct. 28, 1912, in South Dakota. He left Norway as a sailor at age 13, after he was baptized in Bergen. He was  converted in New Zealand. He sailed around the world four times; preached in Durban in the Lutheran church there;
 was lay preacher and founder of the Harbor Mission, Bergen, until 1909. Head of the Bethesda slum mission, Brooklyn, 1905-09;  attended the first course for lay preachers in Bergen, 1887-89. He published songs, songbooks, and Christian tracts and pamphlets.
He represented Bergen on the Viking, at the Chicago Exposition in 1893. His son Elias, a pastor in the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America (now The American Lutheran Church), was pastor of the Norwegian Memorial Church (Mindekirke) in Minneapolis for 25 years.
