Born July 6, 1862, Flesberg, Nummedal, Norway to Gullik Nerison and Jøran Hellicksdatter Grønbo.
Married Christoffer K. Grøterud, 1881, in Flesberg, Norway. Lived on Mogen and took that name. He immigrated in 1885 to Lac Qui Parle County, Minn.; the family in 1886.

They homesteaded in Grant County, S.D., in 1892. Her husband Christoffer died in 1932.  She died June 17, 1939.
Children: Mina, Gilbert, banker, Waubay, S.D.; Gena (m. August Hovland), Ortley, S.D.; Henry, Summit, S.D., Charles, Livingston, Mont.; Julia (m. Peter Uglem) i Bertha, (b. 1895; m. Clayton Schmidt); Clara, (b. 1897; m. Lloyd Kneeland), Suruuit, S.D.; Conrad, Waubay, S.D., banker; Inga Tina (b. 1898); Arthur (b. 1900), Keene, N.D., farmer; Eleen Agnes (b. 1903; m. Claude Brown), Casper, Wyo.;
 Lillian Marie (b. 1907; m. Ernest Richter), Tucson, Ariz.
Eleven of the 13 children were school teachers. There are 44 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren,
 and two great great grandchildren (1961). Berit and her daughter Ellen took a trip to Norway in 1925.
