HOVDE, SIVERT LARSSEN

Born Apr. 5, 1839, Brekstad, Norway,to Lars Sivertson (1806-46) and
Bereth (1817--65y Larsdatter) Hovde.

Immigrated in 1872 to Clay County,SD. Married to Anna Amlie Sve (b. 1848), May 25, 1873, Clay Co., SD. Died July 28, 1910, Clay Co., SD.

"He was baptized in the Lutheran church. At the age of 15

he was confirmed. At the age of 28 he was converted and was

a pious and devoted Christian. He was the first lay-preacher in this

community. He was a diligent student of the Bible and was generous

in all his ways" quoted from the obituary at the time of his dea.th.

His layman's activities were confined to the Evangelical Lutheran

Church in America (founded in 1846; commonly called the Eielsen

SynodJ He continued his activities with this group after the Hauge's

Lutheran Synod was formalized in 1876.
