HJORTLAND, JOHN KNUTE Born Apr. 9, 1866, Laerdal, Sogn, Norway.
Attended the church and school there; worked on a farm;
learned the blacksmith trade in Bergen. Irrrmigrated in 1883 to Merrill, Wis.,
where for a while he worked with Dr. Ravn with whom he had worked as a boy in Norway.
married Lena Harried, 1887, Stoughton, Wis.
Worked as a blacksmith for many years; foreman at Stoughton Wagon Works. Died Apr. 1951, Stoughton, Wis.

HJOETLAND: LENA (HARRIED)
Born Aug. 28, 1858, Ordal, Sogn, Norway. Immigrated in 1882 to Wisconsin. Became a dressmaker.
m. John K. Hjortland. Died in 1954.
Children: Mabel (m. Oscar Rorge, farmer); Della (married Homer Vick, banker)~ McFarland, Wis.;
Carl (interior decorator); Martin (steel industrialist); Anna (m. Arthur Olson, merchant), Rockford, Ill.
Elmer ( pastor in American Lutheran Church ) .
Honored by sons Dr. Elmer Hjortland and Martin Hjortland.
